PKR To Harp On Unresolved Local Issues In N57 Belaga

BINTULU: The Barisan Nasional’s failure to resolve the long outstanding issues besetting the people in Belaga are to be capitalize by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the impending State General Election.
PKR Director of Operation for N57 Belaga, Abun Sui said the people in Belaga were sick of the empty promises made by Barisan Nasional (BN).
“They are yet to see the construction of the 35 km road between Bakun to Belaga which was announced to by built under ‘Jiwa Murni’ Programme by the army as announced by Prime Ministere MOhd Najib Tun Rzak in his earlier visit to Sungai Asap this year,” said Abun.
“The people are yet to see the soul of any soldier there,” he said, adding that construction of the road was in fact to serve the primary interest of the Bakun Hydro Electricity Dam and its companies .
He said the residents who were disgruntled over the allotment of three-acre of land to each family who earlier agreed to resettle in Sungai Asap were yet to receive the bigger allotment as promised by Najib earlier.
Abun said the presence of companies to extract logs and engaging in oil palm plantation estates wee affecting the life of the ordinary folks in Sungai Asap and its neaby areas.
“The unlicensed heavy vehicles loaded with logs are allowed to travel on the truck road and damaging it<’ he said adding that the ordinary motorists there had to send their vehicles for repairs on regular baiss due to the many potholes and damaged road.
“The life span of the new car which they have bought can hardly outlast the nine-year repayment period of their loans,” continued Abun.
Abun said he would let PKR candidate for N57 Belaga ,Ali Basah to highlight more pertinent issues during the campaigning period
“He is expecting to confront BN incumbent Liwen Laggang , a nice person and ineffective to help the people in Sungai Asap and Belaga Constituency as a whole.” Commented Abun
Abun also anticipated a mutli-cornered fight in N57 Belaga including from SNAP and former priest turn social activist, Michael Jok of yet to be registered Parti Ekonomi Rakyat Sarawak Bersatu but would stand as Independent, and the likelihood an candidate fielded by SNAP.
